For the past decade Michael R. Hooks, founder of Michael Making Lives Better has pooled together resources to helped countless Erie students get ready to go back to school with the Back2School Weekend. Generally, there is games, food, music to entertain our youth and families while waiting during the Free Haircut Day. However, a lesser known part of the Back2School Weekend is the Annual Shopping Spree.

Approximately 30 kids get all their clothes and school supplies bought for the upcoming year, followed by a dinner out to celebrate the ending of summer and the commencing of a promising school year, during this occasion.

The tradition was started by Michael in a bid to relieve some economic stress on families in the community. “Just understanding what life is all about,” said Michael. “I’m doing my best to help other people and really help the Erie community.”
